full potential coaching support system

What does having a support system mean to you?  In our last post, we discussed creating success.  One way to help get the transformative results you’re looking for is to have a great support system.  While you are working, out at meetings, or building a business, who is supporting you?  Many people believe they can “go it alone,” and they don’t need help.  The reality is most people who try to go completely solo, end up wasting a lot of time, depleting their energy, and end up feeling burnt out.  Having a team to support you will accelerate your growth, increase the richness of your experiences, and help you reach your full potential.

What if you don’t have a support system?  How do you know who will be an astute confidant on your team?  A lot of thought should go into creating a group to support you.  Choosing wisely, just as if you were selecting a business or life partner will help you in the long run.

Now brace yourself, this next question is very straight.  Do you deserve to have people who back you up no matter what and provide help when you need it? I’m asking that you take stock of how good of a friend and family member you are.  If you can’t think of any friends, family members, or mentors who would gladly support you, its probably because you don’t reciprocate, are not positive, or not actively giving to the people in your world.  We’ll discuss that in another post, in detail later.  But if you are ready, consider my 5 Tips to Creating a Winning Support System:

1. Only include the genuine- Who in your life really has your back?  Who wouldn’t hesitate to give you a loan, because they absolutely believe in you?  Those whom you have a genuine, real connection with should be the only people in your support system.  These are the people who truly wish you well in all that you do.

2. Have 3 or more- A solid support system has at least three people in it.  It could be draining to go to the same person over and over again.  Your team is supporting you, but not doing it for you.  Its a plus having different people with various perspectives to really analyze situations.  If you are ready to play full out, hire a coach and include them as part of your support system!

3. Listen to them- As previously mentioned, your team should consist of people you trust, so listen to them.  Respect what they have to say, even if you don’t agree or take their advice.  Giving them the space to be heard makes your relationship reciprocal, so you are not just telling them your thoughts, ideas, and challenges.

4. Ask for help- Work on overcoming any fear or anxiety around asking for help.  It can actually be a sign of strength to ask for support.  As you take action towards larger goals, your support system can assist in new, creative ways.  Being able to receive help and support is important on the journey to accomplishment.

5. Treat them well- Living by the Golden Rule, treating others the way you want to be treated, is something you can apply to all aspects of your life.  It’s imperative to treat your support system well.  This also goes back to reciprocity. If your team is helping you take it to the next level, they are special and its wise to treat them as such.   Thank them regularly and truly appreciate them.
