So you have a meaningful goal.  Maybe you want to start a side business, make more money, or find your ideal career.  When you’re trying to create success in an area of your life, sometimes it seems like it’s taking forever!  Most of my clients feel like they’ve tried everything but still feel stuck or that they’ve been in the same place for months (possibly years).  It’s natural to be frustrated when you can’t seem to figure out what’s stopping you from seeing the results you really want.  This is about the time when many professionals start doing more things.  They begin having thoughts like, ‘I need to be on social media more.’ ‘I should be out at networking events twice a week.’ ‘If only I read more books and find the one that can change everything.’  While all of those things can be useful at times, if you’ve been trying to reach a goal for a while “getting busier” and pushing through what you’ve already been doing isn’t the answer.

The reality is that your mindset, including your thoughts and beliefs about yourself and goals, is probably having a large effect on what you’re experiencing.  Knowing the right strategy or tactics isn’t helpful if you’re buying into limiting beliefs and focused on stories from the past.  Don’t be fooled!  It’s easy to hear this and think it doesn’t apply to you.  The reason why mindset is so tricky is because its and inside job.  We often don’t realize the thoughts we have on a daily basis influence our experiences.  Here are 3 ways to create success, when you feel like you’ve tried everything!

1. Truly believe in yourself

Do you actually believe in yourself?  The majority of people don’t.  They don’t think they are smart enough, attractive enough, or have the connections to reach their goals.  Others assume they believe in themselves because they try to exert their authority outwardly.  Some of the most insecure people I’ve met were the loudest and most aggressive.  If you don’t have faith that you can achieve what you desire, the odds of it happening are slim to none.

2. Release the negativity

When you think about something new, what does your inner voice say?  We all have one; it’s usually a mixture of thoughts and beliefs that come up instantly.  Do you hear, ‘That’s a dumb idea.’ ‘You can’t do that.’  These negative beliefs hold us back from creating success.  The crazy thing is that they usually aren’t your own thoughts at all, they are things that you’ve heard from others and assume to be true.  If you find that most of the negativity is coming from a specific person or group of people, it could be helpful to limit your time around them (or release them all together).

3. Recognize what’s working

What’s going right for you at the moment?  Most professionals are tempted to say, “Nothing, because I don’t have the job, money, or business that I want.”  This is the time to get really clear on what you do have.  You’re alive and well enough to read this.  If you’re currently employed or have some income coming in, it’s important to be grateful for that.  Focusing on what you don’t have or what’s not working usually brings more of the same.

Feeling stuck at some point while you’re trying to create success is completely natural!  No one has all of the answers and there isn’t a magic bullet or get rich quick scheme (that’s ethical) that is going to solve all of your problems.  If you feel like you’re seriously taking action and not seeing the results you want, then there could be something in you’re mindset that’s stopping you.  Believing in yourself, releasing negativity, and focusing on what’s working can help.  If you’re still not moving in the direction you want or achieving the goals you have, working with a certified coach can make all the difference.  How can you try something new to improve your mindset?
