How long do you spend online?  How much time do you spend on social media?  Many people report being addicted to surfing the net.  The web is literally drowning in content from billions of status updates, tweets, private messages, and blog posts!  And with the use of smart phones, it’s so easy to always be “connected.”  Don’t let this fool you, just as soon as the next post is made the sense of connection is usually lost.  Many of my clients report feeling drained, frustrated, and down the longer they spend on social media.  Why?  Because they are swimming in a sea of other people’s thoughts, desires, feelings, and accomplishments.

If you find yourself not focused on your own success, coaching can help.  One of the first steps for anyone who is ready to start reaching their goals is to log off.  Do you really need a running tally of who said what and where?  Is checking Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram necessary 6 times a day?  Minimizing and detaching from social media can help you feel more energized.  Find out the 3 ways logging off can help you create your own success!

1. Stop Comparing

Its almost inevitable that while on social media you will start comparing yourself with what you see.  It may be an obvious tendency if a connection is broadcasting an aspect of their personal life.  But it could even be at a subconscious level if you keep seeing the same thing over and over again.  Comparison is really counterproductive because everyone is different.  Your tendencies and circumstances are unique and can’t be compared at any level.  Letting go of comparison frees your mind, allowing you to move forward.

2. Get In-tuned With Yourself

Freedom comes once you embrace your own thoughts, opinions, and feelings.  This can be difficult if you are constantly on social media because you are always getting everyone else’s opinions!  Really make time for yourself, your own personal “quiet time.”  During this time, think about the things you enjoy and your own personal goals.  You just might be surprised at what you discover by taking a break.

3. Get Focused

Detaching from social media quiets the online noise.  This allows you to get focused on what you want.  Have you created a plan to get that promotion or buy the new car you’ve been dreaming about?  Now is the time to work out those details and put an action plan in place.  Many of my coaching clients say that they don’t have enough time to get things done.  Usually, once we take a look at where their time is going, we see that a lot of unnecessary time is spent on social media.

Logging off of social media is simply a way to put your goals and yourself first to prioritize your success.  I’m not saying that you should delete your social media accounts.  But I am saying that minimizing your time on them could help to create some major shifts in your life. Kicking the habit is just the first step towards success. Reach out to Fly High Coaching today or check out our Kickstart Your Success Course!
