Do you have a current LinkedIn profile?  If so, is does it present you in a professional light and generate activity to help you reach your career goals?  If your answer to either of the previous questions is no, then READ THIS ARTICLE.  You will learn why LinkedIn is so vital in the business world today and how to maximize it.

Did you know that if someone types your name into Google the first thing that will come up is your LinkedIn profile?  The reality is that whether you’re an employee applying for jobs or a business owner promoting your company, the majority of people will check you out online.  There are around 467 million users of LinkedIn with 2 people joining every second!  If you aren’t on LinkedIn you’re missing opportunities, period.  Here are 3 Ways LinkedIn Can Transform Your Professional Life!

1. Business

If you’re an entrepreneur, a well-written LinkedIn profile can help provide credibility and clarity of service.  One client came to us and said he knew that he needed to be on LinkedIn, but his bare bones profile wasn’t cutting it.  Potential referral partners told him that they weren’t sure of who he was, they didn’t know all the ways he could help clients, and thought he was just starting out in business.  This client was certified in his area with almost three years of experience in his current business and over 30 years of operations experience.  After giving him a LinkedIn Makeover, he went from generating 3 leads a week to 8 leads a week and referral partners were starting to reach out to him about business ventures!

2. Career

If you’re an employee looking for your next opportunity, LinkedIn can help you find it quicker than the traditional route of scouring job sites and looking for positions to submit your resume.  A keyword optimized profile can help recruiters find you and discuss possible roles.  There is even a feature for you to alert recruiters that you’re interested in new jobs, without letting your whole network know.  To be honest, I’ve spoken with many talented and qualified professionals who’ve been looking over 2 years for new jobs.  When I dig into their job search strategy, I usually find that they have no presence on LinkedIn or they have a bare-bones profile with nothing but basic information.

3. Professional Brand

Do you need a well-written profile if you’re not looking for a job or have more clients and customers than you know what to do with?  The answer is yes!  Even if you’re exactly where you want to be, a great LinkedIn profile enhances your professional brand.  Think of it as another way of marketing yourself.  It’s just like a website or a business card and can make or break your professional presentation.  If you’re in sales or other client facing roles, I’m sure you’ve noticed that people view your LinkedIn profile when deciding whether or not they want to speak with you.  LinkedIn can be your first impression, so make it a good one!

Now that you know a bit more about the benefits of LinkedIn, I’ll ask you again, does your profile present you in a professional light and generate activity to help you reach your career goals?  If the answer is no, there’s no shame in admitting it.  Most people don’t know how to craft a LinkedIn profile that attracts new leads, jobs, and business connections.  If you’d like more help, feel free to contact us for a LinkedIn Makeover!
