When was the last time you said, “I can’t afford it”?  Were you thinking of buying new clothes, shoes, or dining at a nice restaurant?  How did you feel at that moment?  Not being able to afford something you really want is one of the most disempowering situations you can experience.  It’s as if there is nothing you can do about it.  For most people, money is an obstacle or an excuse.  I speak with people all the time about things they want to do like leave a job, start a business, or work with a coach.  When it comes down to taking action to follow their dreams they say, “I can’t afford it.”  All the while, they’re buying the latest smart phone every year, going to the movies three times a month, and eating out 3-5 times a week!

It’s quite simple, we buy things that we prioritize and if our checking account isn’t overflowing, then we believe that we can’t afford anything else.  I was guilty of that too in the past.  There’s rarely a perfect time for anything and most transitions require that you get creative!  Do you really want to create success for yourself?  If so, then you’ll find a way to make things happen.  If not, then you’ll stay right where you are: stuck, confused, or wondering what could’ve been.   There’s a great quote by Thomas Jefferson: “if you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”  Here are 3 ways to find the money to fund your dreams!

>Borrow it

Who do you know that supports your vision?  Is it your mom, dad, significant other, or best friend?  These people are the ones who want you to succeed.  There is probably someone in this group who would be willing to loan you the money.  Just explain why you need it and work out a repayment plan with them.  This is usually the fastest and easiest way to get the funds you need for things that can move your career or business forward.

Use a credit card

There are credit cards you can get with one year of interest free payments.  Do you believe that you will be able to pay back the money in one year?  If you need money for an investment, like working with a coach on your business it’s probably worth it.  I don’t personally like to invest in things without at least a possibility of a 2x return on my investment.  For example, people who work with a coach usually see a 7x return on their investment!

Plan it out

If you’re completely averse to borrowing money from a friend or a credit card company, how can you create a money plan with your current resources?  Do you need to save a certain percentage of each check you get from work?  Really think about where you are spending money that you don’t realize.  Come up with a plan and stick to it!   You’d be surprised at what you can purchase with just a few months worth of savings.

Where is the money going in your life?  If you find yourself believing that you can’t afford to reach your dreams, it’s time to reevaluate your funds.  There are plenty of ways to make sure you can create success: borrowing, using credit cards, or creating a money plan.  How can you find a way to get what you want?
