Congratulations!  You are interested in making changes in your career or business and getting results.  Maybe you read our posts, 3 Critical Factors to Look for in a Business Coach or How to Find the Perfect Career Coach! Reaching Your Career Goals, and have decided that you are ready to invest in yourself, dreams, and goals.  Or you’ve heard a little bit about career and business coaching and think it could be a good fit for you.  Now for the important question, are you coachable?

Coaching is for those who are willing to take action and pursue the things they want.  The partnership created between the coach and the client, is supportive without judgment or bias and provides accountability to help you get things done.  This relationship is only beneficial if the client is coachable and takes the process seriously.  Are you ready to change your life, career or business?  Are you ready to have the career, purpose, and peace of mind that you know deep inside is meant for you?  If you want to claim your success with coaching, consider the questions below.

Do you want to improve?

If you truly believe that there is always room for improvement and with focused action you can have exactly what you desire, coaching is for you.  Many can get caught up using material objects to define their success and think that once they have an executive title, a Bentley, a house with a white picket fence, or whatever they place a high value on, that they have it all.  To them, once they reach a level of distinction in their mind, there is no way to improve.  I would ask, what are your new, meaningful goals?  Coaching is about helping people get to where they want to be, so if you think there is nothing to improve, because you’ve already attained some “status,” coaching is not a useful fit.

Do you listen?

There is a difference between hearing and listening.  If you are hearing what someone is saying, while you are preparing a reply in your mind, you aren’t really listening.  This is typical of people who have the “know it all” syndrome.  There really isn’t a discussion because they are constantly trying to dominate the conversation and prove, they already know what you are saying.  Truly listening to someone involves thinking about and processing what they are saying, not hastily coming up with a rebuttal.  During a coaching session, a coach listens deeply and asks thought provoking questions.  It is not expected of the client to have a quick answer to every question.  In fact, most coaches request that a client think some questions over for a week or two.

Are you ready to stretch yourself?

Coaching will take you out of your comfort zone so you can reach those big goals!  Newsflash, creating monumental change rarely happens in your comfort zone or following the status quo.  A coach’s only concern is your agenda and the things that you want, so in most cases a stretch is necessary to step into your greatness.  If you don’t feel completely ready to take a risk, your coach can help you work up to the place where you are taking action with full confidence.  This point is vital because if you are simply waiting for your dreams to be handed to you on a silver platter, the odds are that you will be waiting a long time.  With coaching you can take calculated risks, stretch yourself, and reap the rewards.

Now that you have honestly considered if you are coachable, how do you feel?  Is coaching still something you are interested in?  It’s wise to have an idea of what you are in for at the beginning and plan ahead.  If you want to improve an area of your life, career, or mindset I encourage you to join the Fly High Coaching community.  We believe that YOU have all of the pieces to put your puzzle together.  I invite you to reach out for a free Vision of Success Session, if you are ready to take your life to the next level.
