Graduating from college is a magical moment in your life.  It’s the formal beginning of adulthood, when its time to venture out into the world of full-time work and leave the security of your parents behind. Many young professionals spend a lot of time, energy, and money trying to find their ideal career and start living the life of their dreams.  With so many decisions to make, things can become overwhelming.  Which job do I choose?  What city should I live in?  Should I go to grad school?

Coaching can provide a place for young professionals to focus on their goals and the action needed to reach them.  In addition, finding career specific resources is a wise way to prepare your self.  Careeranista: The Woman’s Guide to Success After College by Chaz Pitts-Kyser, is a great book for those who want practical strategies to navigate the world of work.

Careeranista – a smart, sophisticated, success-driven young woman committed to carving out a career she loves.

The book thoroughly describes how to become a careeranista and set yourself up for success.  There are countless pearls of wisdom incorporated throughout the book, providing the insight you wish someone had told you earlier!  Part I gives you the nuts and bolts when it comes to claiming a position in your career field.  Completing the Career Map described in chapter 1 is helpful to provide a framework and strategy.  From there you move through the job search process, applying for positions, interviewing, and choosing a job.  Each chapter provides thoughtful examples and scenarios to highlight main points.

Part II of the book is all about succeeding on the job while maintaining the life that you want.  How to present yourself professionally, craft an image, manage your boss (yes, manage YOUR boss), and handle conflicts with your co-workers is all standout material.   While reading the book, you may find the urge to share or give a copy to someone you know!  Part III of Careeranista addresses those life questions that come up while you are trying to make the most of your opportunities.  Should you quit your job?  Go to grad school?  Could you make it as an entrepreneur?  Only you know those answers, but this book helps you take a critical look at your options.   Part IV wraps up with ways to handle obstacles on your way to the top.

I’d highly recommend Careeranista to women as a resource with knowledge you need to get your career off the ground.  The content is unbiased and very clear.  Chaz has created a worthwhile read for all young women.
