How do you feel when you go into work in the morning? Are you energized and excited about the day ahead? Or do you dread getting out of bed? Most people spend eight or more hours a day working a job or combination of jobs. That translates to about a quarter of all of your time working every week! If you aren’t happy or passionate about what you’re doing, consider if this is how you want to spend the next five or ten years of your life. Career coaching helps you find out what you were born to do, so you can pursue a rewarding position that fits with your unique values and strengths.
When I work with my clients at Fly High Coaching, we use the BRAVE Process™ to find their ideal career and create a life they love. We focus on taking the next step in that client’s particular career journey. I created this quiz as a quick way to know what your biggest, career challenge is and provide incite on what you can do to progress. Let’s discuss your career path and how you can reach your full potential.
The term career refers to, “a profession for which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling.” Or to put it another way, “an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress.” Notice that there is an emphasis on training and an extended period of time in these definitions. A job on the other hand is, “the work that a person does regularly in order to earn money.” So we can see that a job is a more of a means to an end and a career is a field that you are compelled to pursue. Sure, both terms can be used interchangeably, but for the purpose of this post and at Fly High Coaching, we focus on careers instead of jobs.
A career journey is simply your path as you progress in your chosen profession. This includes your past experiences as well as your current circumstances. What strengths do you have that have served you well in different situations? Maybe you are resourceful and a quick learner. That could show up in many ways, like a quick promotion from intern to staff member or from a junior to senior position. Knowing what your passions are is key, so you can utilize your talents for personal growth and progression in your career.
When you are clear about your career goals, it’s time to start forming the plan to make them a reality. Do you have all of the credentials required? Maybe you need a certification, an advanced degree, or a mentor. What do you want your ideal workday to look like? Think about everything from the number of hours you want to work, to the actual setting (an office or from home?). After noting these considerations, you’re finally ready to start taking massive action! Getting to the next level involves following through on your plans.
No matter where you are on your journey, career coaching can help you reach and surpass your goals with planning, accountability, and support. We at Fly High Coaching would be honored to work with you. Take the quiz and find out the next step in your career!
